          Keith Jones, Chief

Assistant Chief Rudolph (Ruddy) Jefferson has tenured with the RVFD for about 20 years.  An elderly lady loss her life due to a structure fire and Assistant Chief Jefferson felt the need for a department in Rushmere because the other departments were too far from the area.  That is why he chose firefighting as his profession.  His greatest fear is losing a firefighter at a structural fire.  His worse experience was the devastation of Hurricane Isabel.  Because of his experience as a firefighter, he has learn how to communicate with people, solve problems, research and reach out to the community and utilize his leadership skills within the community.  Mr. Jefferson enjoys working closely with his youngest brother, President Jeremiah Jefferson, and nephew First Lieutenant Brandon Jefferson.  However, his greatest accomplishments have been being chosen the first firefighter of the year and the networking with the Rushmere community to accomplish the things the department does.

President Jeremiah Jefferson has been with the department for 21 years.  Growing up and seeing so many lives loss in the community due to fires, he wanted to give back to the community.  That is why he chose the profession.  His greatest fear is not seeing the younger generations getting involved.  His worse experience is trying to get the community as a whole to come together in support of the department.  The experience he has gained has been working with people and motivating the younger people.  He also has learned a lot more about caring.  President Jefferson’s accomplishments include assuming the office of vice-president then moving on to his current position as president.  He has enjoyed being in leadership roles.  Most importantly, he is grateful for witnessing his son, First Lieutenant Brandon Jefferson following in his footsteps!

Captain Kevin Games has been with the Rushmere Volunteer Fire Department since 1990.  Kevin chose this profession because of his background with fire fighting in the Navy.  Joining RVFD has given him the opportunity to give back to the community.  He says he doesn’t really have any fears; although his worse experience was when a ceiling collapse on him during a fire.  Captain Games credits RVFD for the experience he’s gain with the knowledge of basically fighting fires and how the social structure of the community works as far as the government, county and civilian operates.  Kevin has been a certified Fire Fighter III since 1993 and the Captain since 1995.  He also has been EMT certified since becoming a fire fighter.

First Lieutenant Brandon Jefferson has been with the department for four years.  His desire was the give back to the community.  That is the reason he chose this profession.  First Lieutenant Jefferson’s greatest fear is not making it out safely or losing one of his fellow fire fighters.  His worse experience was getting his SCBA mask kicked off during a training evolution.  The incident caused his lungs to be filled with smoke.  During his tenure with the department he has gained experience in learning how to work with different people and how to be a leader.  Brandon enjoys working closely with his father, President Jeremiah Jefferson and his uncle Assistant Chief Rudolph Jefferson.  However, his greatest accomplishments since his tenure with the department have been being chosen fire fighter of the year 2002 and 2006.

Chief Engineer Fabian (Bubba) Hewitt has been fighting fires with the Rushmere Volunteer Fire Department for the past 15 years.  He really enjoys helping people.  His greatest fear has been going into a dwelling and saving someone.  His worse experience was actually seeing someone burn to death.  Chief Engineer Hewitt has learned a lot of how to not only help people, but to help them in a safe way, and to be safe himself.  Bubba was Fire Fighter of the Year in 2004 and he also took most calls for the year, two years in a row.
